I Love You, You're Perfect, Now China

Hot off a four-week run late last year in Shanghai, the producers of I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE have taken their popular production on the road, touring throughout China in 2007.

This marks the first Shanghai production of a Western musical translated into Mandarin Chinese. Director Joel Bishoff, who is also the director of the Off-Broadway production now in its 11th year, worked with translator Nick Rongjun Yu to incorporate Chinese references and jokes into the material. Even the costumes and scenic designs have taken on Chinese influence to relate further to the audience.

New York City audiences can catch the show as it runs in rep with the long-running Off-Broadway production from May 9-June 3 at the Westside Theatre. This 23-performance run is billed as the first time in American theatre history that a foreign production of an American musical will play in the United States. It is co-produced by Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre and Broadway Asia Entertainment.
