Orchestra reduction

I'm a new choral director and one of my many responsibilities is to be a drama/musical director.
I've done a few musicals in my life but never had to deal with not having a full pit.
Looking at doing Once Upon a Mattress but frankly I'm worried about how I can pull it off without a full pit. Basically I have a trumpet player 2 pianist and a percussionist.
Any ideas? Is the sinfonia worth it? The FAQ wasn't to helpful.
I have done a show with the Orchextra during my student teaching, (though the thought of pushing play and praying scares me to death!)

Brandon,

Don't know if you went with the Once Upon a Matrreess....G2K,  but they provide an excellent CD to sing with.  I just finished Cinderella and am looking at Once UPon a Mattress for next year?  Can you tell me if you did it or not?

Thanks!

Paula
